Groundworks for grassed and earth areas involves excavation to the required depth, followed by infilling with Type 1 MOT stone to form a solid foundation with retaining edge. Wet Pour surfacing cannot be laid directly onto grass or earth areas, and so the groundworks element forms a crucial key.
Once the area has been excavated using a ‘Mini Digger’ the ‘spoil’ is disposed of in skips through the use of a ‘dumper truck’. The next stage involves moving the MOT stone into the area and then spreading and levelling it. Finally the Stone is compacted using a ‘wacker’ machine and a retaining edge (wood or Pre-cast concrete) permanently fixed around the perimeter. After this stage is complete any play equipment forming part of the project will have to be fixed into place.
